So me and a few mates (maybe 4 depending on how many people can afford it) plan on going a road trip around Europe in 2013. We plan to leave around April and spend about 6 months there. The general idea is to go to England, buy a diesel van that will be able sleep 3 people reasonably comfortably for a long time then make our way down France, through Spain,ferry (with van) to Ibiza, Up the French coast through Cannes etc across to venice, down the Croatian coast, Greek islands, ferry back to Italy and travel the whole way up through it to Switzerland, up to Germany, Amsterdam and then home.
Im guessing this trip will cost at least 13 grand in total, obviously we will be camping and sleeping in the van wherever we can but we do plan on clubbing and going out quite often. This budget gives us around AU$1200 a month to live on where travel expenses (ferrys,rego,tolls,fuel) are already covered.
Is this do-able, if so any tips on surviving. I no u need to pay for everything in Europe so how easy is it going to be to get water, charge our phones, and shower while living in a van?
Also would it be cheaper to try and sell the van and fly home from Amsterdam or is it worth the trip back to England.

My friends and I are planning a road trip through California next summer. We’re having an issue however of where we will be staying each night. My one friend is super cheap and wants to camp every night and constantly gets agitated by the fact that we would be staying in hotels (I planned a 7 night trip in which 4 nights would be camping and 3 nights in motels). She insists that we use her huge van (Ford ’77) that she says runs better than any new car –in other words, we shouldnt rent a car because its too expensive (her van has no air conditioning and no stereo–were traveling in June). She says shes never booked a motel in advance (didnt realize that you sort of have to do this) and thinks Im lying when I say you can’t have more than 4 people in a motel room (as in the extra fees apply). In terms of camping as well, she wants the cheapest of the cheap (buying only rice and beans and cereal in bulk–really roughing it) and calls us pathetic when we say we aren’t accustomed to camping so rigorously.
Is there any way we can reach a middle ground? I like to camp, and I dont mind tenting for 2 or 3 nights, but if Im going to be touring san Francisco, I’d really like to have a shower before hand

1. Sacramento (found a place she actually might be okay with since its a BandB and itll take all 6 of us for 100$)
2. Tahoe (I found a nice middle ground campsite, but she didnt like that it was 36 a night)
3. Tahoe again same place
4. A hotel in the san fran area (san rafael, novato, etc–im having issues finding it cheap)
5. Camping in Big Sur OR Hotel (everyone wants a hotel but I said if we cant do the hotel we should camp)
6. Another night camping in Big Sur
7. Hotel in Solvang
Is there anyway to get good discounts on hotels (ive been to hotels.com) or to get deals on stuff? I want this road trip to be fun for everyone, while also maybe taking some people out of their comfort zones (make people rough it a bit, or make my other friend loosen up and pay another $20 for a nice bed!)
Three days, five national parks/monuments and 720 miles all distilled into one 5 minute clip. I rode from Moab over the Abajo Mountains, through Glen Canyon NRA (Lake Powell), to and through Natural Bridges NM, up to Capitol Reef and west through Grand Staircase-Escalante NM to Bryce Canyon NP. From there I headed north across the Aquarius Plateau, back to Captiol Reef and then home to Moab. with enough money for a month and then work in different towns for extra money to keep traveling. my boyfriend and I want to go this summer 2010. ill be outta high school. we live in texas and want to drive west with a big van. we will stay in our car and camp out in different places. is this a possible vacation?
My husband wants to go on a 22 hour road. I’m really excited, but I’ll be 32 weeks pregnant at the time. My doctor gave me a folder of need-to-have-ICE information, and told me to take precautions to avoid stressing baby, back, and legs. We have a van with a back bed that folds out, and the two seats between the front and the very back come out, so I’d have room for the camping toilet, a cooler, etc. Does that sound like it’d be okay? Any mom’s have some tips for me?
