Wapusk National Park – Manitoba One of the world’s largest polar bear denning sites, Wapusk means “white bear” in the native Cree language. The park is a unique ecological zone bordering the arctic, hosting both tundra and coastal marine environments. This landscape provides habitat for over 250 species of birds as well as hyper-abundant snow geese colonies. Though wildlife seems to be growing, this evolution must be monitored. Parks Canada continues to watch over this landscape as it sits on the precarious border to the ever-changing Canadian north. ©2009 & 2010 High Fidelity HDTV Media Inc – All Rights Reserved NTSC widescreen 16

La Mauricie National Park – Quebec Every fall this park in Quebec becomes vibrant and alive as the leaves of the Canadian Shield forest turn to red and gold. The trees lure visitors from around the world. But as much as those trees are a blessing, they have also been a curse. The 150 lakes are clogged with the effects of a hundred years of logging. The desire to preserve what hasn’t been cut has also damaged the forest. Now prescribed burns and lake cleanups are attempting to erase the sins of the past. ©2009 & 2010 High Fidelity HDTV Media Inc – All Rights Reserved NTSC widescreen 16

Koala in Blue Mountains National Park

Blue Mountains National Park is located on the eastern Australian coast near Sydney in New South Wales. There is a breathtaking scenery and an abundance of wildlife. Marsupials, such as the kangaroo, the wallaby, the wombat and the koala or birds such as the kookaburra, the ibis or the always very noisy cockatoo are to be found here. Koalas are not bears, but MARSUPIALS, which means that their young are born immature & they develop further in the safety of a pouch. Its incorrect to call them koala bears. Their correct name is simply koalas. Koalas are mostly nocturnal. Nocturnal animals are awake at night and asleep during the day. Koalas, however, sleep for part of the night and also sometimes move about in the daytime. They often sleep for up to 18-20 hours each day. Koalas do not live in rainforests or desert areas. They live in the tall eucalypt forests and low eucalypt woodlands of mainland eastern Australia and on some islands off the southern and eastern coasts. Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia are the only states where koalas are found naturally in the wild. Simien Mountains National Park is one of the National Parks of Ethiopia. Located in the Semien (North) Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, its territory covers the Simien Mountains and includes Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia. It is home to a number of extremely rare species, including the Ethiopian wolf, Gelada Baboon, and the Walia Ibex, a wild goat found nowhere else in the world. The Caracal also occurs within the Simien Mountains. More than 50 species of birds inhabit the park, including the impressive Bearded Vulture, or Lammergeier, with its 10-foot (3m) wingspan. The park is crossed by an unpaved road which runs from Debarq, where the administrative headquarters of the park is located, east through a number of villages to the Buahit Pass, where the road turns south to end at Mekane Berhan 10 kilometers beyond the park boundary.
