you have 2 choices (if you were single with retirement and almost young)
1.Stay someplace you dont like for a few months, get a used van, load all the bikes, kayak, and dive gear and take off for a year or so
2 Leave in 2 weeks,Put everything in storage except touring bike and trailer (camping gear) and set out touring the Good ol USA, Mexico and Canada?
Ok same for me folks and thanks. Now I will be leavingS.Az for mexico first. 6 miles away. head down the pacific side and back up the gulf side. Slowly
Will my mini newt lights be able to be recharged in mexico (need a converter?) or should I switch to conventional battery lights (wimpy)

    Option 2!!!

Both sound amazing, but touring the continent by bike? If I could I would!

I have to agree with CT. See the continent by bicycle, I’ll catch up with you in 10 years when I retire. I have a cycling friend who has just completed coast to coast (Va to Ca) on a bike. He only needed 60 lbs of gear (not counting the constant 2 day food supply he constantly replenished) and spent 79 days. DON’T forget a registered side arm for protection!

the first option is pretty tempting, however, you could always rent that stuff when you get to your destination, by bike!! go w/ 2!!

good touring weather in the north ends in October, you will be chasing the sun touring. but thats OK.

Gasoline costs a lot to be driving a van, but can give a place to sleep. also lots to worry about dragging all your stuff around the country in strange places.

I toured the US on a bike in 1976, the adventure of my life, still 30 years later.

my brother toured the US in a pickup and trailer in 1994, the trip of his life.

either one will do. but with petro what it is, I think i would do the cycle thing too.

make a list of all your friends and relatives phone numbers and locations, it gets to be a hassle always being around with strangers.

    GOOOOD Luck
