What are some good informational websites for driving from the states to Costa rica?

You can drive safely through Mexico, but I would not advice you to do so in Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador. It is a well-known fact that any Mexican willing to visit Colombia would never drive there, it is way too dangerous (even for Mexican standards). If you still wanna drive there, buy a Mexican road map. As far as I know, there are no such resources for Central American countries.
