How Many miles to the Gallon can a 1984 Dodge Ram Van Get on the Hwy?
Thinking of doing something wild and crazy taking my old Dodge Van I use for 4hr road trips that I use for camping…….
Thinking about going on a LONG road-trip…..From CA- Oregon, to Idaho, and thru Nevada, back to CA.

How many miles to the gallon do you get in your 1984 Dodge RAM Van?

My van has a queen size bed, porta potty, curtains, and a/c, everything thing i need, and never have to unpack.

So— should i do it in the VAN??? or rely on the Luxury car and do motels? I’m looking for a thrill, and think this will be fun for the spouse and dog and me. It’s my idea, i said i wouldn’t complain!:D

How many miles to the gallon.
***********Pros and cons welcome.**************

thanks for your help and ideas.
Kindness and experienced road trippers please.

**I plan on showering! state parks/motels,wash up!

I have an ’88 G-20 custom (high roof) Chevy van. I live in NY and I take it everywhere – down the East Coast, Trips to Canada, the UP, Lousiana/Texas, New mexico/Colorado. Fishing trips, business trips, hunting trips. Rides like a living room chair. Got over 200K on it and planning a trip to NM next month. I get about 14 mpg – not great, but it’s a 6000 lb 3/4 ton truck. Beats the hell out of motel rates and an expensive luxury car. Go for it.

There are plenty of campgrounds just about everywhere on your route…we did it in a 1976 Dodge Mobile Scout RV several times, and there were lots of van-camper rigs right in there with the big guys. Most have OK to fine showers and laundry machines and most places even had gedunks where you can buy sodas, snacks, etc. State park campgrounds are the nicest, but are more off the beaten path [i.e., not E-Z off on the interstates] but worth the extra time/travel. Note on dogs: all campgrounds have grassy “dog walk areas” which are kind of mandatory…no dog poop on the main pathways, right…and you have to keep your buddy on a leash [common sense, really]. We’ve gone cross country several many times in this fashion and with our dogs, and it worked out great. Take a barbeque rig [small size] so you can have cook-outs and meet other people out doing the same thing nearby. Best way to see the US of A, in my opinion.
